Michael Grills: Art Direction for Entertainment Media

Art Direction Samples:
The following samples are from a project codenamed "Firestorm." The work shown was developed by various concept artists, level artists and character artists under my direction.

While this project was cancelled due to the massive industry layoffs in 2023 you can see the art directions potential. The intention of the game was to be Player versus Enemy and have large battle zones that would be dynamically changed so that players would never be completely used to the environment.

The next set of samples are from a project called "Matrix World" which is currently accessible https://matrixworld.org/world. The work shown was developed by various concept artists, level artists and character artists under my direction.

This project required that the assets be optimized for WebGl. My understanding of the vast fidelity differences in games across all technologies made it so that we were able to start a dense landscape that other competitors were unable to emulate.

My Leadership Process
I come prepared with a standard operating procedure that is efficient and effective at keeping projects on track as well as allowing art creators to be able to be a part of the vision. My process ensures higher quality inputs with less iterations than most art leaders are used to.
